The Jam Factory

The disused and rundown Hartley Jam Factory is an emerging area close to Bermondsey Market and was acquired and converted to provide 200 loft apartments and live work units. Rather than demolishing the existing multy-storey warehouses, which were considered too good to demolish, award-winning architect; Ian Simpson and Partners were commissioned to design a scheme. This incorporates two-story extensions in glass and steel. The interiors of the buildings were redesigned and new windows and balconies installed. Alan Camp Architects were appointed to design two new buildings to accommodate affordable housing, new apartments and live work units. The loft units were sold either fully fitted, with a choice of interior design solutions or in shell form. Live Work use was a major part of the scheme. The Jam Factory Project won The Evening Standard Lifestyle award and is considered to be one of the finest examples of warehouse development in London.
