The Pump House

This grade 2 listed pumping station was part of the London Hydraulic Company's network of hydraulic power generation, used to power the London docks and the City of London elevators. The site had sat vacant and disused for many years. Being right next to Canada Water underground station was an advantage, though the new buildings had to bridge the underground tunnel and required an innovative raft system. The old buildings were converted into 54 lofts and houses. The new build element being in the style of the old warehouse buildings in the area. The scheme gained the commendation of English Heritage who recognised the way in which the existing water tanks were reused enabling them to be retained and saved as an extremely innovative reuse of industrial heritage of the area.
