Wheat Wharf

The oldest listed warehouse in the Butlers Wharf area, grade 2 listed. The building had suffered from extreme subsidence due to being overloaded with wheat and the original timber piles having rotted. When acquired face the possibility of being permanently lost. DransField Owens Da Silva architects working with Packman Lucas Engineers were able to provide innovative solution to underpin the whole structure with new rating piles and straighten the structural timber frame. The building was converted to 40 loft apartments and 5000 sq ft of offices. These provide extremely characterful homes, which utilise all the features of the old warehouse. The central feature staircase is cantilevered and has been designed to hang from a steel chain.
